Graduate Traffic Engineer

Join TKDA as a Graduate Traffic Engineer and help improve the safety and mobility of transportation systems throughout Minnesota and across the country. You'll gain hands-on experience solving real-world traffic engineering challenges while working with a collaborative team committed to your growth and technical development.

You'll work alongside a group of engineers, designers, and technicians who have established a reputation for delivering safe and efficient solutions on complex transportation projects for state, county, and local agencies and design-build contractors. Our traffic engineers specialize in traffic operations, transportation safety, traffic studies, and transportation system design that improves mobility and safety for all users.

This position offers the opportunity to gain experience in both traffic operations and traffic design, helping you develop a well-rounded traffic engineering skill set early in your career and discover which aspects of the profession interest you most. You will collect and analyze traffic data; perform intersection operations, safety, and multimodal evaluations; prepare intersection and corridor studies; and conduct analyses using traffic simulation and modeling software. You will also prepare preliminary and final traffic engineering designs and develop construction plans for signing, pavement markings, temporary traffic control, traffic signals, and roadway lighting.

Successful candidates are often those who have developed interests in either traffic operations or traffic design and are excited to broaden their experience across both disciplines.

For this opportunity, we are seeking a qualified candidate who currently resides or plans to relocate within a regular commuting distance of our office.

Hybrid Work Environment: Tuesday - Thursday In-Office | Monday & Friday WFH

Required Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in civil engineering
• Strong interpersonal skills, ability to work in a team environment
• Effective verbal and written communication skills
• Strong working knowledge of Microsoft Office applications (Excel, Word, Outlook)
• Valid Driver's license

Preferred Qualifications

We recognize that graduate candidates may have stronger exposure to either traffic design or traffic operations through coursework, internships, or research. Candidates with experience in one area and an interest in developing skills in the other are encouraged to apply.

• Engineer in Training certification, or ability to obtain within six months
• Master's degree in civil engineering with an emphasis in traffic or transportation engineering
• Experience related to traffic engineering or transportation engineering
• Exposure to traffic design or plan development; familiarity with AutoCAD Civil 3D or Bentley OpenRoads Designer
• Exposure to traffic operations modeling and crash analysis; experience with Synchro/SimTraffic, Highway Capacity Software, VISSIM, RODEL, SIDRA, or similar analysis software
