Job Type: Contract-to-Hire
Location: Cocoa, FL
Shifts: 1st & 2nd Shift Available
Starting Pay: $24/hour — higher depending on experience
2nd Shift Differential: Additional $3/hour
Position Overview
We are looking for experienced Structural Steel Welders and Fitters to join a fabrication shop. This position involves preparing, fitting, assembling, and welding structural steel components using shop equipment, cutting tools, and precision measuring instruments.
Candidates with strong welding, fitting, or combined structural steel fabrication experience are encouraged to apply.
Responsibilities
- Review blueprints, fabrication drawings, and technical specifications before beginning work.
- Measure and mark structural steel according to required dimensions.
- Cut, fit, position, align, and assemble steel components for fabrication.
- Perform structural steel welding in accordance with project requirements and applicable standards.
- Prepare and operate fabrication equipment, machinery, and hand tools.
- Use equipment such as:
- Oxyacetylene torches
- Plasma cutters
- Drill presses
- Angle presses
- Jigs
- Tape measures
- Squares
- Set up and operate a track torch when required.
- Inspect materials and completed assemblies for accurate measurements, alignment, fit, and overall workmanship.
- Maintain an orderly work area and follow established shop safety procedures.
- Coordinate with supervisors and other fabrication personnel to complete work according to production schedules.
Required Qualifications
- Previous experience in structural steel welding, fitting, or fabrication.
- Ability to read and understand blueprints and technical drawings.
- Experience measuring, fitting, aligning, and assembling structural steel.
- Knowledge of welding processes, fabrication machinery, and shop tools.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to maintain accurate dimensions and quality standards.
- Dependable approach to production work and commitment to workplace safety.
- Ability to work effectively with a fabrication team.
Preferred Experience
- Flux Core welding experience.
- Ability to successfully pass a Flux Core welding test.
- Experience setting up and operating a track torch.
- AWS or other welding certifications are a plus.
