What We are Looking For: 

We are looking for a Senior MongoDB Platform Engineer to define how Airlock Digital designs, operates, and improves MongoDB across our multi-tenant cloud platform and customer-deployed products. You will build the standards, tools, and engineering practices that help teams make better database decisions, improve product performance and resilience, and manage growth safely. The environment includes MongoDB Atlas and self-managed deployments supporting high-volume endpoint activity, policy and reputation data, background processing, aggregation pipelines, and tenant-specific databases. You will work with Cloud, Server, DevOps, Security, and Support teams to turn production evidence and product needs into a clear MongoDB roadmap. 

Key Responsibilities:

• Define and own Airlock Digital’s MongoDB strategy, roadmap, architecture standards, and operating model across cloud and customer-deployed products. Balance product performance, resilience, security, scalability, customer impact, and cost. 

• Build and lead Airlock Digital’s MongoDB observability and performance-improvement capability. Establish the standards, tooling, and operating practices needed to understand how the product uses MongoDB, turn production evidence into clear priorities, and measure whether improvements deliver the intended results. 

• Establish safe, repeatable approaches for MongoDB lifecycle changes, including upgrades, maintenance, topology changes, and failover validation. Build the controls and release practices needed to reduce risk and customer disruption. Planned after-hours maintenance is required. 

• Define and govern Airlock Digital’s MongoDB resilience and recovery capability. Set recovery expectations, validate preparedness, identify systemic risks, and drive improvements across cloud and customer-managed deployments. 

• Build scalable automation, guardrails, and self-service capabilities that make MongoDB environments consistent, auditable, and easier for engineering teams to operate safely. 

• Build MongoDB expertise across the engineering organization by defining guidance, sharing expertise, reviewing important design decisions, and helping teams understand the performance, reliability, and scalability consequences of their choices.  

• Lead database incident response, root-cause analysis, and follow-up improvements. Turn incident findings into stronger platform standards, tooling, and product design. 

Required Skills & Qualifications: 

• 7+ years of production database engineering and administration experience, including substantial responsibility for MongoDB platforms where availability, performance, recoverability, and growth matter. 

• A record of defining database strategy, standards, and roadmaps, then turning them into engineering practices that teams adopt and use. 

• Deep expertise with MongoDB across Atlas and self-managed deployments, with the judgment to guide architecture decisions involving performance, resilience, security, scalability, recovery, and cost. 

• Demonstrated ability to use production evidence to identify systemic constraints, set engineering priorities, and guide improvements to data models, access patterns, indexes, and application behavior. 

• Experience building observability, automation, guardrails, and self-service capabilities that improve consistency, reduce operational risk, and help engineering teams work more independently. 

• Experience partnering with product and engineering teams to influence architecture and deliver improvements that cross application, infrastructure, and database boundaries. 

• Experience leading complex production changes and database incidents, then turning the lessons into stronger standards, tooling, and product design. 

• Clear written and verbal communication, including the ability to explain technical tradeoffs and investment priorities to engineers and company leaders. 

Nice-to-Have Skills and Experience 

• Experience reading and tuning MongoDB access patterns in Go applications using the official driver and in Ruby on Rails applications using Mongoid. 

• Experience operating multi-tenant SaaS MongoDB environments, including sharded clusters, high-volume telemetry, aggregation pipelines, sustained read and write workloads, retention requirements, and multiple MongoDB versions. 

• Experience packaging and supporting self-managed MongoDB deployments using Linux services, Docker or Podman containers, and persistent storage, including updates and recovery under varied customer constraints. 

• Familiarity with Azure, Kubernetes, Helm, infrastructure as code, CI/CD pipelines, and integrating database operations with application release processes. 

• Experience in cybersecurity or another security-sensitive product environment. 

• A bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, or a related field is preferred but not required; equivalent practical experience is welcomed.
