As a global leader in Open Banking Payments, we are establishing Pay by Bank as the new standard at checkout, providing unparalleled freedom, speed, and ease to millions of consumers and merchants worldwide.
Our Ambition: To build the world’s most disruptive payment network and redefine what the payment experience should feel like.
Trustly is a global team of innovators, collaborators, and doers. If you are driven by a strong sense of purpose and thrive in a dynamic, entrepreneurial, and high-growth environment, join us and be part of a team that’s transforming the way the world pays.

We operate at the intersection of high-scale engineering and deep financial intelligence. Our team processes millions of transactions in real time, turning complex Open Banking signals into seamless payment experiences. We pride ourselves on a culture of intellectual curiosity, technical excellence, and extreme ownership.
About the role
Trustly offers guaranteed and non-guaranteed payments, so approval rate and loss are a live conversation with every customer. You will be the risk voice in those conversations, starting before terms are signed. You will own the risk relationship for a portfolio of customers: the reporting they see, the thresholds they ask about, the remediation when return performance drifts, and the expected loss and guarantee tier that go into their pricing. This is an individual contributor role. This is an individual contributor role. You will influence outcomes through collaboration, working with our risk, commercial and product teams and directly with customers.
What You’ll Do
OWN THE CUSTOMER RISK RELATIONSHIP
Run the risk cadence for the customers in your portfolio: regular reporting, the risk content in quarterly business reviews, and the risk pack itself.
Explain why approval rates and thresholds are set where they are, and deliver threshold and guarantee tier changes with the rationale behind them.
Advise customers on the controls and data on their side that would let Trustly approve more: account validation, checkout flow, and what they share at authorization.
Bring the case for a threshold or tier change back into Trustly.
SHAPE NEW DEALS AND REVIEW HOW THEY PERFORM
Run discovery and scoping with the customer and the deal team: volumes, consumer mix, return and chargeback history, the controls, and approval rates.
Set indicative risk appetite, expected loss rates into pricing, the guarantee tier recommendation, and any pre-authorization or data requirements.
Quantify the trade-off for the customer: approval rate, expected loss and the guarantee fee.
Structure risk terms on non-standard deals, including exposure caps, collateral and phased limits.
Design pilots and phased launches for a new customer or a new vertical: scope, limits, what is measured and the exit criteria.
Review the deals after launch, comparing actual loss and approval against what was priced.
INFLUENCE RISK DECISIONS INSIDE TRUSTLY
Carry the customer view into the risk engine and product roadmap.
Own risk content in requests for proposals, risk questionnaires, and customer due diligence reviews.
Enable our commercial and customer success teams on a regular cadence: what can be promised on risk, and when risk needs to be in the room.
Represent Trustly risk with customers and at industry events.
What We’re Looking For
8+ years in payments risk, merchant underwriting or risk consulting, including time in a customer-facing role.
Customer-facing risk experience at a payments company, or pre-sales and solutions consulting at a risk or decisioning vendor, with direct exposure at executive level.
Ability to build a deal-level expected loss view and explain the assumptions behind it to our commercial team, Finance and the customer.
Experience explaining loss and return performance to a customer and agreeing a remediation plan.
Working knowledge of guaranteed payment economics.
A record of moving decisions you do not own, such as a pricing, product or threshold change agreed with other teams.
Analytical skills and the ability to explain long term and short term trends.
Willing to travel up to 25% in the US and Canada.
PREFERRED
Bachelor's degree in a quantitative or business discipline.
ACH or EFT domain expertise.
Depth in gaming, or in telco, utilities, insurance or financial services.
Hands-on use of rules engines, real-time decisioning or fraud platforms.
Experience with collections and repayment as part of the customer conversation.
Experience advising customers on their own controls, such as account validation or checkout flow.
Applications for this role are accepted on an ongoing basis.
