Network Administrator (5663)

SMX is seeking a Network Administrator to join our team supporting NAVAIR at Patuxent River, MD. This is a mid-level role supporting enterprise network infrastructure, boundary services, cybersecurity compliance, and modernization efforts across a large DoD environment.

This position requires approximately 2–3 days onsite each week at Patuxent River, MD.

This position is a great opportunity for a network professional looking to expand their experience with Cisco, F5, enterprise networking, cybersecurity, and cloud modernization while working alongside experienced engineering and operations teams.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities

• Troubleshoot LAN, WAN, and application-level connectivity and performance issues
• Configure, maintain, and troubleshoot Cisco switches, routers, and other network infrastructure
• Manage and administer F5 BIG-IP devices and load balancing services
• Deploy new network devices in accordance with approved engineering designs
• Support highly available network architectures and traffic management solutions
• Maintain boundary security infrastructure supporting NAVAIR core sites
• Work with NCDOC, NAVAIR Information Assurance, and Program Management teams to investigate network security incidents
• Support DoD Public Key Infrastructure (PKI) enablement efforts
• Support NMCI/legacy network interoperability and cloud migration initiatives
• Review STIG requirements and updates and support remediation of identified vulnerabilities
• Assist with network documentation, SOPs, work instructions, processes, and desk guides
• Collaborate with Windows, Unix/Linux, cybersecurity, cloud, engineering, and other infrastructure teams supporting the Data Center
• Participate in an on-call rotation and scheduled off-hours maintenance windows as required

Required Skills & Experience 

• Clearance Required: Top Secret
  • A secret clearance may be considered to start, but candidates must be eligible for upgrade to Top Secret 
  • US Citizenship is required for work on DOW contracts
•  DoD 8570/8140 IAT Level II compliant certification, such as Security+, CySA+, GSEC, SSCP, or another qualifying certification
• 3+ years of experience supporting network infrastructure, Cisco devices, IP networking, or related enterprise network environments
• Experience configuring, monitoring, maintaining, or troubleshooting network systems and infrastructure
• Familiarity with enterprise networking concepts, protocols, and highly available network environments
• Working knowledge of DoD cybersecurity practices, including Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIGs)
• Strong troubleshooting, communication, and documentation skills
• Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively with technical teams and customers

Desired Skills & Experience 

• Hands-on experience configuring and supporting Cisco Catalyst and Nexus switches, including VLANs, trunking, routing, and network troubleshooting
• Experience administering Cisco Firepower firewalls or comparable enterprise firewall/security platforms
• Experience configuring and supporting F5 BIG-IP, including load balancing, virtual servers, pools, health monitors, and traffic management
• Experience supporting network boundary infrastructure, including firewalls, routing, access controls, and secure connectivity between network environments
• Familiarity with common enterprise networking protocols and services, including TCP/IP, DNS, DHCP, BGP, OSPF, SNMP, and 802.1Q
• Experience performing Cisco IOS/NX-OS configuration, maintenance, upgrades, and troubleshooting
• Experience applying DISA STIGs, reviewing vulnerability findings, and remediating network-device security findings
• Experience supporting network infrastructure within a DoD, NAVAIR, or other regulated enterprise environment
• Experience troubleshooting connectivity across physical, virtual, and cloud-hosted environments
• Experience creating and maintaining network diagrams, device configurations, SOPs, and technical documentation

The proposed salary for this position is:$105,000—$140,000 USD
