The Role
Are you passionate about building quality into modern data platforms and machine learning solutions? As a Senior Software Development Engineer in Test (SDET) on our Data Platform QA team, you'll play a critical role in ensuring the reliability, accuracy, and performance of the data systems that power our products.
In this hands-on individual contributor role, you'll design and build scalable automated test frameworks that validate complex data pipelines, ETL workflows, and machine learning models. Working closely with Data Engineers, Machine Learning Engineers, DevOps teams, and Data Scientists, you'll help embed quality throughout the development lifecycle and ensure confidence in every release.
Your work will directly support our mission of leveraging contextual data to drive positive behaviors by safeguarding the quality and integrity of the data that drives our platform.
Your Day-to-Day
- Design, build, and maintain scalable automated test frameworks for data pipelines, ETL workflows, and machine learning models.
- Validate large-scale distributed data processing systems using technologies such as Step Functions, Kafka, Airflow, Snowflake, and Databricks.
- Develop testing strategies for data quality, schema validation, data drift, model accuracy, bias, and regression testing across ML pipelines.
- Partner with Data Engineers, ML Engineers, and DevOps teams to embed quality throughout the CI/CD lifecycle.
- Perform exploratory testing on new features and data or machine learning outputs to identify edge cases and improve system reliability.
- Integrate automated tests into CI/CD pipelines to enable continuous validation.
- Monitor production issues and participate in root cause analysis for data and machine learning model failures.
- Mentor junior SDETs and contribute to testing strategy and quality engineering best practices across teams.
About You
- Bachelor's or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
- 6–8 years of experience in software testing, including at least 3 years focused on data platform or machine learning testing.
- Strong Python skills with hands-on experience using testing frameworks such as PyTest or unittest.
- Hands-on experience with SQL and data technologies such as Step Functions, Kafka, Airflow, Snowflake, Data Lake, or similar platforms.
- Understanding of machine learning concepts, pipelines, and evaluation metrics.
- Experience with dbt tests or custom data validation frameworks.
- Deep knowledge of CI/CD and infrastructure as code, including Jenkins, GitHub Actions, and Terraform.
- Experience working with SageMaker Notebook.
Bonus Points
- Experience with model interpretability, fairness, and bias testing.
- Familiarity with MLOps platforms such as MLflow, SageMaker, or Vertex AI.
- Exposure to monitoring tools such as Prometheus, Grafana, or DataDog for data pipelines.
- Knowledge of data governance and compliance practices.
Salary: $198,502 – $281,694
*Please note that the final salary offered will be determined based on the selected candidate's skills, and experience, as well as the internal salary structure at Quanata. Our aim is to offer a competitive and equitable compensation package that reflects the candidate's expertise and contributions to our organization.

- Location: We are a remote-first company for most positions so you may work from anywhere you like in the U.S, excluding U.S. territories. For most positions, occasional travel may be requested or encouraged but is not required. Some positions might require travel per the job description provided to the employee. Employees based in the San Francisco Bay Area or in Providence, Rhode Island may commute to one of our local offices as desired.
- Hours: We maintain core meeting hours from 9AM - 2PM Pacific time for collaborating with team members across all time zones.
