ABOUT THE ROLE
We are looking for an experienced Systems Administrator to manage the lifecycle of our global virtualized server infrastructure. In this role, you will be the primary architect and manager of our Proxmox environments, ensuring high availability, performance, and security. You will partner with MIS teams to streamline their environment deployments and create robust disaster recovery plans. You’ll also keep your finger on the pulse of virtualization industry trends, evaluating emerging technologies for their potential impact on our ecosystem. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: (Your duties should reflect the most significant aspects of your job. Do not state anything that requires less than 5% of your time.)
- Architect & Maintain: Design, build, and manage Proxmox Virtual Environments (Proxmox VE) and Proxmox Backup Server (PBS) deployments globally.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Coordinate closely with Storage (SAN) and Networking teams to plan, test, and execute infrastructure changes seamlessly.
- Capacity Planning & Optimization: Proactively monitor Proxmox hardware capacity. Analyze usage trends and recommend strategic improvements to balance cost-efficiency with business needs.
- Security & Compliance: Ensure all systems adhere to company policies regarding documentation and security, industry best practices, and vendor security patch requirements. Develop and test robust disaster recovery plans.
- Hardware Management: Oversee the lifecycle of server hardware, including monitoring health and coordinating replacements.
- Deployment & Configuration: Provision and configure Virtual Machines (VMs) across various operating systems.
- Project Management: Effectively prioritize and manage multiple assigned IT projects through to completion.
- Mentorship: Guide, train, and elevate junior administrators, fostering a collaborative learning environment.
- Effective Communication: Translate complex technical concepts into clear, actionable information for stakeholders with diverse backgrounds and varying levels of technical expertise
CORE REQUIREMENTS:
- 3+ years of demonstrable experience managing Proxmox DataCenter environments (Proxmox VE and PBS) in an enterprise setting or equivalent hypervisor environment (KVM, VMware, etc)
- Proven experience integrating and maintaining hypervisors within an iSCSI SAN environment.
- Solid Linux/Debian background.
- Solid understanding of network redundancy, high availability, and load balancing principles.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
OPTIONAL QUALIFICATIONS:
- Experience with Ceph distributed storage architecture (especially within Proxmox VE).
- Proficiency in Bash/Python scripting and Proxmox CLI/API tools for task automation and cluster management.
- Experience deploying and managing Kubernetes (K8s) clusters.
- Hands-on experience deploying and managing containerized applications using Podman.
- Expertise in Dell Server hardware management.
- Administrative experience with Windows Server operating systems.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS
This position requires the normal demands of any job, such as sitting, standing, reaching with arms and hands, walking, talking and hearing. You should be capable of lifting up to 50 lbs (for occasional hardware handling).
WORK ENVIRONMENT
The work environment is generally a moderate noise level; however, ear protection is provided and required when working in server rooms. Given the nature of IT infrastructure, this role requires occasional after-hours or weekend work, particularly during scheduled maintenance windows, peak periods, or emergencies.
