We are seeking a proactive, highly motivated React to build engaging, interactive, and community-driven experiences across The Weather Network (TWN) and MétéoMédia (MM) Mobile Apps (iOS & Android via webviews) and Digital platforms (Desktop and Mobile Web).

As a driven self-starter, you will work closely with Product Managers who bring the requirements and product vision, and you will partner directly with a Tech Lead to learn the ins and outs of our infrastructure, technical requirements, and architecture. You will operate with a flexible mindset—experimenting with new technologies and UX approaches in some cases, and engineering robust, scalable solutions for production in others.

Whether evaluating third-party libraries, integrating SaaS platforms, or building custom code, you will help design and execute solutions for live chat modules, logged-in/premium user experiences, and interactive community elements (comments, likes, shares, stories). Your work will directly transform our mobile and digital applications into a highly interactive, community-driven ecosystem.

Please note, that this is a 12 month Contract role and we are only considering candidates who are eligible to work in Canada and can work in a Hybrid model at our Oakville location

WHAT'S THE DAY TO DAY LIKE?

• Technical Solution Architecture & Prototyping: Partner with Product Managers and your Tech Lead to turn functional requirements into smart technical solutions. Evaluate whether to leverage third-party libraries, integrate SaaS solutions, or build custom features depending on project needs.

• Experimentation & Production Building: Work comfortably across the entire development spectrum — rapidly prototyping and testing experimental technologies/UX approaches in some scenarios, while building clean, maintainable, production-ready code for high-traffic environments in others.

• Tech Lead & Cross-Functional Partnership: Collaborate closely with a Tech Lead to master our technical architecture and infrastructure guidelines. 

• React Development: Conceptualize, design, develop, and implement high-quality, scalable features for web platforms using React and React.

• Community Building: Build and integrate real-time social functionalities across mobile and web platforms, including comment threads, like/share actions, user stories, and live chat modules.

• User Journeys: Develop and optimize logged-in and premium user experiences across mobile app and digital touchpoints, ensuring seamless state management and personalized interfaces.

• Performance & Mobile Optimization: Maintain UI/UX quality, ensuring top-tier responsiveness, accessibility, battery efficiency, and performance across mobile devices and web platforms. Continually optimize code for smooth animations and low latency.

• Testing & Continuous Delivery: Build solutions with a Test-Driven Development (TDD) mindset. Write unit tests, manage app release pipelines (CI/CD), and support QA testing when required.

WE ARE HOPING YOU HAVE:

• Core Stack Focus (React): Proficiency and hands-on experience building, launching, and maintaining web platforms using React and React.

• Pragmatic Problem-Solving & Technical Range: Proven ability to translate product requirements into sound technical solutions. Comfortable working in both experimental settings (rapid prototyping, evaluating third-party SDKs, trying new UX patterns) and structured production releases.

• Proactive Self-Starter Mindset: Highly motivated and resourceful. Demonstrated ability to take initiative, ask the right questions, partner effectively with technical leaders, and own feature delivery end-to-end.

• Experience: Minimum 3 to 4 years of related job experience specializing in front-end and mobile app development for high-traffic environments

• Education: University degree in Computer Science, College diploma in Computer Programming, Information Technologies, or a related discipline.

• Web & Mobile Technologies: Expert-level understanding of modern JavaScript / TypeScript (ES6+), HTML5, and CSS3/SASS.

• Interactive & Real-Time Features: Experience building real-time interactive mobile and web features (e.g., utilizing WebSockets or SaaS tools for live chat) and social engagement modules.

• API & Third-Party Integration: Experience designing UI/mobile interactions that consume RESTful APIs, GraphQL, third-party SDKs, and SaaS services.

• State Management: Solid experience with state management libraries in the React ecosystem (e.g., Redux, Context API, Zustand).

• Responsive Design: Deep understanding of mobile-first design principles, and cross-device compatibility.

• Have an Eye for UI/UX: You possess a strong eye for design, basic knowledge of UI/UX principles, and familiarity with tools like Figma, Adobe Illustrator, or Photoshop.

• Love Animation & Micro-interactions: Experience with mobile and web animation libraries (e.g., Framer Motion, GSAP) to build engaging "Stories" or polished micro-interactions.

• Master Mobile Deployment & Agile Workflows: Proficient with Git (GitHub, Bitbucket), mobile build/deployment pipelines (Fastlane, App Store Connect, Google Play Console), and Agile/Scrum methodologies.
