About the role
Parallel Wireless is reimagining mobile networks with innovative, energy-efficient Open RAN solutions. Join us as we lead the future of telecommunications, driving innovation through green and sustainable networks. Learn more about our mission, vision and values.
Parallel Wireless is redefining the radio access network with fully open, software-driven RAN infrastructure. Our O-RAN-compliant RIC platform runs on two very different clocks: a near-real-time control loop that makes automated network decisions in under a second, and a non-real-time layer of machine-learning-driven applications ("rApps") that continuously analyze network behavior and feed smarter policy back into that real-time loop. Data is what connects the two. Most internships have you working on a toy project in a corner. This one doesn't. You'll join the team building our Near-RT RIC platform and get hands-on exposure to a system that spans C, C++, Go, and Python across dozens of interdependent microservices. You'll be mentored by senior engineers, contribute real, reviewed code, and see exactly how a modern, large-scale, real-time distributed system is built and operated.

What You'll Do:
-
- Learn the platform's core engineering patterns — messaging, service registration, stateful data handling — through structured onboarding and close mentorship.
- Contribute real, reviewed code to CI/CD tooling, test coverage, and production microservices.
- Get exposure to the full technology stack: Linux systems fundamentals, C++/Go service development, containerized deployment (Docker/Kubernetes), and the data infrastructure (Redis, Kafka, Elasticsearch) that a real-time distributed system depends on.
- Participate in code review and day-to-day agile development alongside experienced engineers.
What We're Looking For :
- Currently pursuing a degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, or a related field, with at least 3 semesters remaining until graduation.
- Working knowledge of at least one programming language such as Go, C++, Python, or Java.
- Familiarity with Git, Linux, and basic command-line tools.
- Genuine curiosity about distributed systems, networking, or telecom — and no fear of a large, unfamiliar codebase.
Nice to Have:
- Coursework or personal projects involving networking, distributed systems, or machine learning.
- Experience with Docker or Kubernetes.
What We Offer:
- Real ownership of production-bound code, not busywork.
- A Direct mentorship from engineers building a large-scale, real-time distributed system.
- front-row seat to how a modern microservices architecture is designed and operated.
