About Pantheon

Every day, thousands of developers and marketers create, iterate, and scale WordPress and Drupal sites to reach billions of people globally.
Pantheon’s multitenant, container-based platform enables organizations to manage all of their websites from a single dashboard. Organizations including Clorox and the United Nations drive results through accelerated development and real-time publishing using Pantheon’s collaborative workflows.
The Role
As a Sales Engineer at Pantheon, you will partner closely with Sales Account Teams to demonstrate the value and technical capabilities of the Pantheon platform.
This role is designed for a hands-on practitioner who can build, troubleshoot, explain, and sell modern web experiences. You will translate complex technical requirements into clear, compelling solutions and help prospects understand how Pantheon can support their business goals.
You will be part of a founding team bringing a promising new product to market—one with the potential to disrupt an established category. Because the team is building the product, market, and sales motion at the same time, you may occasionally need to work outside the traditional boundaries of the Sales Engineer role—helping create demos, improve documentation, shape messaging, support early customers, or solve whatever problem is most important that week.
You will play a critical role in qualifying and closing customers while working closely with Sales, Product, Engineering, Marketing, Customer teams, and agency partners. You will help onboard design and development teams at client and partner organizations, enabling them to understand the product, build effectively, and deliver successful customer experiences. You will influence how prospects, clients, and partners understand and adopt Pantheon, contribute field insight to product direction, and help evolve how Pantheon positions its technical value in the market.
The Sales Engineer owns technical discovery, solution design, demonstrations, and the technical win. Implementation Engineers may support deeper configuration, development, and delivery work, but the Sales Engineer must be technically credible enough to build and debug demonstrations, understand architectural tradeoffs, and earn the trust of technical buyers.
What you’ll do
- Partner effectively with Account Executives to uncover customer needs and map solutions to business outcomes in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Deliver customized product demonstrations and technical presentations, both remotely and on site, that clearly communicate technical value and business impact.
- Build and maintain hands-on demonstrations, prototypes, and proof-of-concepts that show how Pantheon solves real customer problems.
- Lead discovery sessions to understand customer requirements, technical environments, and existing development workflows.
- Work directly in the product and code when needed to validate workflows, troubleshoot issues, and show how Pantheon fits into a customer’s environment.
- Identify, surface, and resolve technical blockers throughout the sales cycle.
- Complete RFPs, RFIs, and security and technical questionnaires in support of procurement processes.
- Clearly articulate return on investment and technical value to both technical and non-technical stakeholders.
- Collaborate cross-functionally with Product, Engineering, Marketing, and Customer teams to influence platform direction and customer experience.
- Secure the technical win for assigned opportunities.
- Develop and maintain subject matter expertise in key technical areas, particularly modern web infrastructure, composable architectures, and AI-assisted development.
- Contribute to internal enablement by sharing customer insights, field learnings, demonstrations, and best practices across teams.
What you bring to the table
- 4+ years of hands-on experience developing, deploying, or supporting modern websites and web applications, including customer-facing technical work.
- Experience developing on Drupal, WordPress, and React/Next.js.
- Comfort with AI-assisted development tools such as Claude Code, including using them to build, debug, and iterate on working web experiences.
- Strong presentation and facilitation skills, including the ability to lead compelling technical demonstrations and explain architectural tradeoffs clearly.
- Ability to translate technical concepts into clear business value.
- Strong technical curiosity and a continuous learning mindset.
- Comfort working with evolving products, incomplete documentation, and early customer feedback.
- Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-growth environment.
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent practical experience.
Nice to have
- Experience with decoupled content stores such as Contentful or Sanity.
- Experience with headless or decoupled architectures.
- Deep experience with Next.js or other modern JavaScript web frameworks.
- Contributions to open-source projects, especially in the WordPress, Drupal, React, or Next.js ecosystems.
