Job Description
Join Olsson's South Facilities Engineering and Design team as a Fire Protection Engineering Manager, where you'll lead a growing team delivering complex projects, including, secure facilities, healthcare, higher education, commercial, industrial, and federal facilities.
In this leadership role, you'll be responsible for guiding and developing a team of fire protection professionals, fostering technical excellence, managing resources, and ensuring successful project delivery. You'll work alongside multidisciplinary teams while helping shape the future growth of Olsson's fire protection practice through client engagement, recruitment, mentorship, and strategic planning.
Primary Responsibilities
- Lead, mentor, and develop a team of fire protection engineers and designers, providing coaching, performance feedback, and career development support.
- Manage team workload, staffing plans, resource allocation, and project assignments to ensure successful delivery of project commitments.
- Provide technical leadership and quality oversight for fire protection and life safety system designs.
- Oversee the design and review of fire suppression, fire alarm, and life safety systems in accordance with applicable codes, standards, and client requirements.
- Serve as a trusted advisor to clients and project teams, building strong relationships and supporting long-term client success.
- Collaborate with architects, MEP engineers, project managers, and security professionals to deliver integrated building system solutions.
- Support business development efforts through proposal development, project scoping, client presentations, and strategic growth initiatives.
- Drive continuous improvement, technical knowledge sharing, and implementation of best practices across the team.
- Assist with recruiting, hiring, succession planning, and team growth initiatives.
- Monitor project quality, schedules, and budgets while supporting project managers and technical teams.
- Occasionally travel to project sites, client meetings, and other Olsson offices as needed (approximately 10% or less).

You bring to the team:
- Bachelor's degree in Fire Protection Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, or a related engineering discipline.
- Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Fire Protection Engineer (FPE) credential preferred.8+ years of fire protection engineering experience.
- 4+ years of leadership, supervisory, project management, or team development experience.
- Experience supporting business development, proposal efforts, and client relationship management.
- Strong working knowledge of NFPA standards, IBC, IFC, UFCs, and client specifications.
- Proficiency with relevant design and modeling tools such as Revit, AutoSPRINK, HydraCAD, or similar software.
