About the role
About The Role
Hi, I'm Trevor, co-founder and co-CEO at Jane. I've been building Jane for about 14 years, ever since Ali and I started solving problems for her clinic in North Vancouver, and I still spend my days closest to product and engineering. Fair warning: I'm the last person in the world to give you an elevator pitch - I'd much rather talk about the problems we're solving. The Communications group owns every conversation between clinics and their patients: appointment texts, secure messaging, email, fax and other channels.
You'll lead a group of about 15 engineers and 3 engineering managers, partner in a triad with Product and Design, and spend a lot of your time on genuinely new things - this group is building products from the ground up, not just maintaining mature ones. What makes this role special is that communication is where Jane's mission gets tangible: when a patient gets the right message at the right moment, they show up, they get care, and the clinic thrives. If you're a builder at heart who loves taking new products from idea to launch, and you like to work hard, be kind, and have fun while you're at it, I'd love to meet you.
What Impact We’re Looking for You to Make
Lead the Communications group's engineering teams to deliver meaningful outcomes across SMS, secure messaging, email, and fax - the channels 70,000+ clinics use to reach their patients every day.
Build new products from the ground up, taking zero-to-one work like two-way text messaging from early discovery through to general availability.
Own reliability and deliverability at scale across an integration architecture with partners like Twilio, Sendbird, and AWS.
Partner closely with Product and Design in a triad, translate the impact of technical work for product stakeholders, and advocate for the technical investments that matter.
Champion practical AI adoption in how the group builds and in what it builds, with a clear point of view on how AI changes patient-facing communication.
What Experience We Need
Experience leading engineering managers and senior engineers across multiple teams in a product-led SaaS environment.
A track record of building new products inside an established platform - you've taken something from zero to general availability, not only operated mature systems.
A point of view on product, not just engineering. You'll be expected to challenge what we build and why, hold your triad partners to the same bar they hold you to, and do it with kindness.
Clear evidence of developing engineering managers and building high-performing teams
Experience moving fast through iteration in environments with regulatory awareness - healthcare or fintech experience is an asset.
If you don’t meet every single qualification but are excited about this role, we’d still love to hear from you.
