Overview
About the Team
Instacart’s Logistics Product team owns the multi-sided fulfillment engine that powers every order on the platform. We deliver fast and affordable delivery and pickup for customers; flexible, reliable, and competitive earnings for shoppers; and continuously improving efficiency and quality for the marketplace as a whole. Logistics runs on ML and optimization at its core — how we batch orders, match them to shoppers, position and pay shoppers for their work, and route them physically — making this one of the most technically deep and commercially consequential product areas at Instacart.
About the Role
We’re looking for a Director of Product to lead the Logistics product organization and take it to its next phase of growth. This is a highly visible leadership role with executive sponsorship, owning a pillar with company-wide impact on Instacart’s long-term growth and profitability. You will set the multi-year vision and strategy for Logistics, lead and grow a team of product managers, and partner closely with engineering, machine learning, data science, and operations to build products that generate value for all sides of the marketplace. You will be responsible for key outcomes core to the company’s success — fulfillment cost, speed, quality, and shopper experience — and trusted to make fast, high-quality decisions in a complex, ambiguous, and highly interconnected domain.
About the Job
- Own the multi-year product vision, strategy, and roadmap for Logistics — spanning service coverage, delivery speed, order batching and routing, shopper matching, positioning, and pay — and drive cross-company momentum behind it.
- Partner with the company’s executive leadership to define, prioritize, and deliver the strategy, translating complex, interconnected tradeoffs into crisp narratives that align the organization.
- Solve complex fulfillment problems and build 0-to-1 products and services that create synergistic value across customers, shoppers, and retailers, while continuously improving efficiency, speed, and quality at scale.
- Lead, hire, develop, and grow a high-performing team of product managers; establish operating rhythms, hiring plans, and development frameworks that build a healthy, high-trust team and develop leaders who set the pace.
- Act as a trusted partner to engineering and ML leadership on complex, high-stakes technical tradeoffs; anticipate where to focus the team ahead of the business impact becoming obvious.
- Define clear success metrics and maintain a rigorous experimentation portfolio with a consistent cadence, using data, first-principles thinking, and user research to make sound, sometimes irreversible, tradeoffs.
- Lead cross-org initiatives that measurably improve org health, and mentor and uplevel PMs across the broader organization.
About You
Minimum Qualifications
- 10+ years of product management or similar experience, including 4+ years managing and developing product managers (including senior PMs).
- Strong marketplace or systems thinking — the ability to reason about multi-sided marketplace interactions and long-term vs. short-term tradeoffs, heavily informed by data as well as user research.
- Proven track record leading multi-quarter initiatives and delivering impactful products measured by hard business outcomes (e.g., cost, speed, quality).
- Strong technical fluency with ML- and algorithms-driven products; comfortable working through complex technical tradeoffs alongside engineering and ML leaders.
- Excellent written and verbal communication; able to influence executive leadership and align cross-functional teams in a complex domain.
- Demonstrated ability to hire, develop, and retain high-performing PMs and build healthy, high-trust teams.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience in a multi-sided dynamic marketplace-oriented role, envisioning or evaluating algorithms-based products and services.
- Background in logistics, fulfillment, supply chain, or operationally complex physical environments.
- Experience with e-commerce or grocery technology.
