About the role
About fab2
The fab2 team can build anything. We design all the hardware and software needed to make chips and we make the fabs, tools, and components ourselves.
We're looking for exceptional, hands-on people who can iterate to the limits of what's possible.
fab2 was founded by Sam Zeloof and Jim Keller. Sam is best known for making chips in his garage, and Jim has been a leader in the semiconductor industry for the past 40 years.
About the Team
The tool software group builds Linux control software and microcontroller firmware for fab2’s in-house semiconductor manufacturing equipment. This includes software for sequencing, recipe execution, interlocks, operator user interfaces, diagnostics, and real-time microcontroller firmware.
About the Role
The Manufacturing Software Lead owns the software systems that manufacture, test, and calibrate for all of fab2's semiconductor equipment. This involves architecting software for device assembly, provisioning, calibration, and end-of-line test. You will implement firmware and software changes in production equipment while also building dedicated software for manufacturing test.
Responsibilities
Own manufacturing software for all in-house hardware, from components (MFCs, pumps, valves) through assembled processing tools
Design and build automated test and calibration systems for fixtures, test firmware, and host-side test software
Write production software in C, Python, and Rust which include firmware test modes, calibration and characterization routines, provisioning and flashing tools, and test-station applications
Partner with manufacturing engineers on test station design and implementation
Uphold code and testing standards through feedback and code review
Hire and mentor team members
Required Experience
BS in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Physics, or a related field, or equivalent practical experience
5+ years developing software for the manufacture or test of physical products (test automation, calibration, end-of-line test, production tooling)
Proficiency in C and Python
Working knowledge of electronics and instrumentation: reading schematics, using bench test equipment
Experience with production data systems: traceability, test databases, and analysis of manufacturing data
Nice-to-have
Background in semiconductor equipment, fluid/gas handling components, vacuum systems, or scientific instrumentation
Experience testing or calibrating mass flow controllers, pumps, pressure/temperature sensors, or precision actuators
Experience with MES integration or building lightweight MES functionality
Familiarity with FMEA, SPC, or other quality and reliability practices
Experience scaling from prototype builds through production ramp
Experience with Rust
