About the role
About us:
Founded by former Google search engineers with PhDs in AI from ETH Zurich, DeepJudge helps legal teams unlock and apply the knowledge inside their organizations through world-class enterprise search and AI infrastructure – enabling them to automate workflows, build knowledge-powered applications, and turn institutional knowledge into a lasting advantage.
Every organization can license the same AI models, but no two organizations share the same institutional knowledge. Decades of experience, work product, and precedent are often fragmented across systems, underused, and inaccessible. DeepJudge makes this expertise instantly available and actionable – helping legal teams find the right information faster, surface relevant knowledge, and apply it where it matters most.
Our platform is trusted by many of the world’s leading law firms and legal teams, including Holland & Knight, Gunderson Dettmer, Cozen O’Connor, ArentFox Schiff, CMS Switzerland, Schoenherr, and others.
Headquartered in Switzerland with a growing team across North America and Europe, DeepJudge is shaping the future of how professional knowledge is discovered and applied.
At DeepJudge, we move with urgency, think rigorously, and work closely with our clients to build products that solve meaningful problems. If you want to help define how AI transforms professional knowledge work, we’d love to hear from you.
About the Role
DeepJudge is seeking a Machine Learning Engineer to design, build, evaluate and refine AI systems powering our core products. In this role, you will have a chance to own the entire lifecycle of an ML-enabled component of our product from research to production: data analysis, modeling, implementation, delivery to the customers, offline/online evaluation, and iterative improvement.
Your responsibilities will include:
Bridge Research and Production: Stay on top of the latest developments in the AI space and translate cutting-edge research into scalable, production-ready systems.
Core ML: Train, evaluate, and optimize a wide range of machine learning systems. Drive efficient inference and deployment while ensuring the robustness, reliability, and scalability of ML-powered components across our product.
Search: Continuously advance search quality through innovative use of models, data, tools, agentic systems, both offline and online evaluation, techniques, and any other means that move performance forward.
You're a great fit if you:
Have strong hands-on experience, including training and serving deep learning models.
Are proficient in at least one modern deep learning framework (e.g. PyTorch, JAX, TensorFlow).
Are familiar with modern ML practices, and have experience building scalable AI-powered systems that deliver real value. Experience with neural retrieval systems, agentic systems, or publications in top journals/conferences is a strong plus.
Take ownership of key product components, define their technical vision, and navigate the uncertainty of building first-of-its-kind AI models.
Thrive in fast-paced environments, executing with focus while collaborating effectively across engineering and business teams.
Are passionate about solving complex problems and pushing the boundaries of AI, turning cutting-edge ML ideas into impactful, production-ready features.
Last but not least, if you have exceptional communication skills that make sharing complex ideas, giving feedback, and incorporating diverse perspectives second nature.
What you can look forward to:
Location: We have an office near Zurich central station and mostly work in the office
You will be able to take on full ownership for your projects and tasks from day 1
You will have a stake in shaping the future of a high-impact scale-up
You will be on a fast-paced learning path, where you grow professionally every day, combining diverse areas of ML and SE expertise to develop and deploy cutting-edge ML solutions
