About the role
Dandy is transforming the massive and antiquated dental industry—an industry worth over $400B. Backed by some of the world’s leading venture capital firms, we’re on an ambitious mission to simplify and modernize every function of the dental practice through technology. As we expand our reach globally, Dandy is building the operating system for dental offices around the world—empowering clinicians and their teams with technology, innovation, and world-class support to achieve more for their practices, their people, and their patients.
About the Role
We're looking for a Senior Factory Automation Engineer to take full technical ownership of the 3D measurement systems at the heart of our Provo factory; the machines that inspect and sort every restoration we make. High-volume, fully customized, automated manufacturing is one of the hardest problems in production engineering, and 3D inspection at this scale is technology almost no one else is building. You'll be the single owner of these machines in a 24/7 production environment: accountable for their uptime, their yield, and what they become next. You'll work with very little process overhead - if you decide a change is needed to hit our targets, you make it.
What You'll Do
Own our 3D quality control, sorting, and final inspection systems end to end. You are the sole technical owner of these machines in live 24/7 production
Drive measurable gains in yield, throughput, and asset utilization by monitoring production data trends and closing the loop on the failure modes you find
Partner with our machine learning and advanced manufacturing teams to improve inspection accuracy and co-develop the next generation of measurement systems
Set the technical roadmap for this equipment: decide what gets designed and built next
Diagnose mechanical and process failures to root cause, then implement permanent design fixes rather than workarounds
Design and iterate on custom tooling, fixtures, and jigs to improve process stability and material handling as the machines scale
Lead vendors through installation and commissioning of new equipment, confirming custom tooling and actuators meet design specifications
Build the preventative and predictive maintenance approach that keeps these systems available without becoming a bottleneck to production
What We're Looking For
8+ years of experience as an automation, manufacturing, or equipment engineer, on either a development or an operations team
Degree in Mechanical Engineering or a related engineering discipline, or equivalent hands-on experience
Direct experience with high-volume automated production equipment, in live environments where downtime carries immediate cost
Proven ability to maintain and optimize high-speed automated systems, including PLC logic, robotics, and vision systems
Root cause rigor using systematic methods (5-Whys, Fishbone, 8D) to resolve complex equipment failures and prevent recurrence
A data-driven approach: you use sensor data and statistical process control to anticipate failures rather than react to them
Comfort defining your own scope. This role comes with real ambiguity and real authority; you'll build the plan rather than receive one
Based in or willing to relocate to the Provo, UT area.
Bonus Points For
Experience at a rapid-growth hardware or advanced manufacturing company where the technology was new and the timelines were short
A track record of moving up quickly, taking on scope faster than your title did
Hands-on experience with 3D scanning, metrology, or machine vision inspection systems
Experience standing up equipment or a production line from scratch, not only maintaining one you inherited
