About the role
About the Role
This is a raw-talent hire at a fast-growing AI startup in the food retail and supply chain space. You will join a small, exceptionally high-calibre team and own a disproportionately large surface area of data science work from day one. The role exists because the company is scaling rapidly and needs people who can produce at the level of an entire team.
What You'll Do
Build and ship production-grade data science and ML systems end-to-end, from messy raw data to live outputs.
Use agentic AI coding tools daily to accelerate development and output.
Work across modelling, engineering, and product in a zero-to-one environment where scope is broad and priorities shift fast.
Contribute to forecasting, optimisation, or other quantitative problem areas as the business scales.
Operate with high autonomy and high accountability in a record-breaking-week-every-week culture.
What We're Looking For
A quantitative degree, mathematics PhD, or equivalent rigour from a top-tier university.
Daily hands-on use of agentic AI coding tools such as Claude Code, Cursor, or similar; this is a non-negotiable.
Experience as an early employee (first 15 hires) at a startup, with a track record of operating in ambiguous, high-intensity environments.
Strong raw engineering or technical ability; backgrounds in ML engineering, software engineering, or founding engineer roles are equally welcome alongside data science titles.
Demonstrably high output and drive; the ability to keep pushing through crunch periods matters more than any specific domain credential.
No prior experience in retail or fresh produce required; domain knowledge will be developed on the job.
5 or more years of relevant technical experience, or exceptional early-career signal in lieu of tenure.
Compensation & Benefits
Salary range: 70,000 to 110,000 EUR annually. Visa sponsorship is available for the right candidate.
Location
Hybrid in Berlin, Germany. Relocation support is available for candidates moving to Berlin.
