About the role
At Beam, we’re building AI that serves society.
We're a global team of ambitious, hardworking problem solvers, applying fast-moving startup energy to work that makes the world a better place. If you want to apply your talent to the biggest problems society faces, Beam is the place for you.
You’ll be part of a high-performance culture where you'll make a huge impact, rapidly progress your career, and truly enjoy your work.
Over 100,000 frontline workers already use Beam to take notes, provide live interpretation and handle phone calls, so they can focus on the people who need them most. This is just the beginning.
The Opportunity
This is Beam's first dedicated Head of Sales in the US. The mandate is: acquire logos, grow revenue, and build the sales function that takes us from our strong foundations working with some of the largest US cities on the East and West coasts to the company transforming human services nationwide and the lives of tens of millions of Americans.
We're already active in multiple states: Pennsylvania, Colorado, Virginia, New York, New Jersey, California, and North Carolina with proven product-market fit and a team of six AEs and two BDRs in place. This isn't a greenfield build. It's a platform to accelerate: expand into new geographies, deepen penetration in existing markets, and scale a team that can match our ambition across a universe of approximately 10,000 potential US customers.
In a global company of 200 people, you'll report directly to the CEO and have the mandate, resources, and support to build something significant. This is a genuine builder role: set the strategy, grow the team with exceptional individual and team players, set the bar of executional excellence, and put your stamp on how Beam wins in the US.
What You'll Do
Own and lead the US sales function: setting strategy, building process, and driving new logos from 20 into the hundreds and ARR from low seven figures to nine and beyond
Develop and build the existing team of AEs and BDRs; expand into new States; hire Sales Managers as headcount scales
Lead by example by being prepared to drive the full new logo sales cycle on key accounts: from outbound and conference ground game through to close
Own the pilot-to-subscription conversion motion, working closely with CS who manage ARR and expansion
Build deep, lasting relationships with decision-makers across state and local government, public health, and human services agencies: becoming a trusted partner, not just a vendor
Maximise the potential of a remote sales team: establish a high-performance culture, coach reps to be their best, and create the rituals and accountability structures that make distributed teams win
Represent Beam at key sector conferences and events; lead from the front in building external presence and team spirit
Work cross-functionally with the CEO, product, and CS teams to refine messaging, pricing, product and GTM approach
Report on pipeline, forecast, and team performance with rigour and ability to be deep in the detail of your team’s work and transparency
What We're Looking For
We hire for intrinsic qualities as much as experience. The right person is hungry, smart, detail-oriented, and mission-driven. They've built something before, not just run an inherited playbook. They love spending time with customers and they love selling: so much so, they\might have to be told to step back from deals as they build out their team.
Essential:
Proven track record building and scaling a sales function at a Series A–D SaaS company: you've taken a business from little-known to established, not just managed an existing customer base or taking orders
A competitive hunter mentality: energised by creating structure for teams to succeed, and winning logos, whether that’s via Zoom or by getting on a plane
Demonstrable ability to identify, coach, and retain high-performing sales teams and to move quickly but kindly when people are not performing to your almost unreasonably high standards
Commercially sharp with strong forecasting discipline and pipeline management
Intellectually rigorous: this is an technical sale. You do not need any experience working in or selling to the public. But curiosity to understand the political context, local challenges, state and federal law, and procurement process is essential.
A compelling personal story about why Beam’s work matters to you: government buyers don't buy from salespeople; they buy from partners who know they care
Based in or willing to relocate to ET or CT (East Coast preferred)
Strong advantage:
Former founder with real traction: you've built something and have the proof points to show for it
Experience selling into state and local government: you know how budget cycles, RFPs, and procurement decisions work
Background in govtech, healthtech, or human services software
Experience with a pilot-to-subscription or land-and-expand sales model
Track record at a UK or European company expanding into the US
Process
Round 1: Interview screen
Round 2: Interview with CEO
Round 3: Sales skills practical session
Round 4: Working session and leadership
Round 5 (optional): in-person dinner
Compensation & Benefits
$200,000–280,000K base salary depending on experience and scope
Up to 100% OTE bonus tied to new logos and pilots
Meaningful equity. Our CEO's previous company (Index Ventures-backed) delivered ~$50M+ in employee payouts on exit.
Healthcare plan, generous PTO, $400 home office budget, wellbeing allowance
Work remotely with up to 6 weeks working abroad per year
