Public Finance Intern - Summer 2027

Position Summary

The Public Finance team at Assured Guaranty is seeking a number of interns to join the team this summer.

The Interns will work across a number of sub-groups which collaborate to create Assured’s origination and credit underwriting across U.S. Public Finance new business.

Roles will include credit analysis and support across various municipal bond sectors and functions. Additional positions are available to support marketing and secondary market execution.   

Position typically includes summer-ending capstone project where a sample transaction is underwritten by a team of interns and presented to an informal credit committee.

Primary Responsibilities

The Interns will assist with the following tasks:

•  Collaborate with third-party data vendors and clients to request financial and deal information which can then be entered into underwriting software packages.
• Monitor & analyze market information which can be shared both internally and externally with clients.
• Conduct ad-hoc data analysis and modeling to support credit analysts. 
• Interact with credit analysts on flow business deals and prep deals prior to them being underwritten.
• Support Product Development and Modernization team to improve business processes by utilizing various company-approved AI tools.
• Using various platforms to help source new business opportunities on municipal bonds trading in the marketplace.
• Update marketing material to help new business efforts across bankers, financial advisors and investors.

Required Competencies (Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities)

• Minimum 3.0 GPA
• Proficiency in Excel, Bloomberg, and PowerPoint
• Ability to work on a small team and manage multiple responsibilities
• Strong willingness to learn new skills
• Basic knowledge of fixed income or capital markets preferred
• Strong programming skills in Python and SQL are necessary for some positions
• While any discipline will be considered, candidates studying finance, economics, mathematics, accounting, information technology, or similar subjects will be prioritized

The salary for the position is expected to be from $30 per hour to $32 per hour. The actual salary will depend on various factors, including but not limited to a candidate’s experience and credentials, salary expectations of applicable candidates, and other applicable market conditions. This position provides a weekly all-firm catered breakfast and lunch (Tuesday and Wednesday) as well as intern-specific meals and events.

Note: Housing stipend may be available for interns who will be residing outside of the tri-state area (New York, New Jersey, Connecticut) for the duration of the summer internship program (June 8 – July 30).
