About the role
About Acron Aviation (Avionics – Surveillance):Acron Aviation designs, engineers, and manufactures certified avionics systems that support safety-critical flight operations across commercial and military aviation. Within Avionics, the Surveillance product line develops and sustains systems that enable aircraft awareness, collision avoidance, and airspace interoperability. Our portfolio includes TCAS, Mode S transponders, ADS-B, and integrated surveillance solutions deployed across commercial, military, and rotorcraft platforms. This work is performed in highly regulated environments and demands deep expertise across systems, hardware, software, and RF throughout the full product lifecycle. Job Description:As a Lead Electrical Engineer within our Surveillance product line, you are focused on developing TCAS and transponder radios, owning the electrical engineering discipline through initial concept generation, design, qualification, and lifecycle management. You will interact with business development and all engineering functions, with specific focus on relating the requirements for top-level product development to the specific technical areas of electrical engineering. You will be involved with multidisciplinary project teams involving mechanical, electrical digital/analog, RF, firmware, and software engineering in planning, designing, prototyping, and testing of avionics transponders, RF, and sensor-based systems. You will additionally be responsible for mentorship of junior engineers, as well as ensuring the Surveillance product line follows industry best-practices for product development. Design focus will include surveillance avionics for Air Transport, as well as General Aviation and emerging platforms such as Urban Air Mobility (UAM) eVTOL aircraft.
Key Responsibilities
- Conceptualize, design, integrate, and qualify digital, analog, and power circuitry, with supplemental RF principles, in the avionics realm.
- Design circuits with microprocessors, memory, Ethernet, SPI, I2C, high-speed busses including PCIE, and various avionics interfaces.
- Proficiency in electrical schematic generation and review. Support for and review of CAD layout (preferred skills with Altium).
- Generate design documents including HRDs, HDDs, and HCIAs. Generate certification documents such as PHACs.
- Work effectively designing individual circuits, aircraft system architectures, and everything in between.
- Familiarity with electrical analysis tools for power distribution, stress analysis, and other relevant simulations.
- Participate in the proposal process for programs with EE requirements by estimating tasks, identifying risk and planning development.
- Effectively communicate across multiple technical teams.
- Communicate directly with customers, in person or virtually, to understand their problems and formulate actionable solutions.
- Other duties as assigned.
Required Qualifications
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electrical Engineering or Computer Engineering and minimum 15 years of prior relevant experience. Graduate Degree and a minimum of 13 years of prior related experience.
- Minimum 10 years of prior relevant experience in an engineering discipline with systems engineering principles, including requirements definition, requirements verification, design reviews and documentation, integration, test and demonstration.
- Hands on experience designing and developing avionics products, RF, or sensor systems.
- Working knowledge of at least one software language (python or C++ desirable)
- Proven design experience implementing value engineering and lean practices.
- Proven design experience implementing automation and AI to reduce cost and cycle time.
- Experience working in an integrated manner with US-based engineering teams.
Preferred Additional Skills
- Work as a technology generalist with large amounts of design freedom to identify the most effective and timely solution, with main focus in electrical realm.
- Python and C++ working knowledge.
- Experience with and an understanding of aerospace systems, especially in the development of integrated hardware/software products
