Engineering Director - Health Companion App - Paris (x/f/m)

About the role

The opportunity

Founded in 2013, Doctolib is Europe's leading AI and digital health company, serving 520,000 health professionals and 90 million people. We are turning our patient-facing product into Europe's first broadly available, AI-powered Health Companion - and simultaneously launching a significant B2C subscription business from scratch.

With the #1 health app in Europe and a brand people genuinely love, this is not a greenfield bet. It is a platform with unmatched distribution, being transformed into something far more powerful that will help every person in Europe live healthier.

Your mission: build the best health experience ever created and help turn Doctolib's consumer product from a massive free service into one of the company's next major growth engines.

As a key equity stakeholder, you will help shape - and directly benefit from - Doctolib's path to IPO in the coming years.

The role

We're looking for an Engineering Director to lead our Health Companion organization. Reporting to the VP of Engineering, Health Companion, you will oversee 4 engineering teams and their managers — including our flagship Health Companion for Parents of young children, built within the Doctolib app, which helps parents manage their children's appointments, documents, and health journey together.

Your teams will own:

  • An AI-powered health chat combining medical expertise with rigorous safety and accuracy standards

  • Personalised recommendation systems delivering relevant health content and guidance

  • Engaging native mobile experiences making health management intuitive and accessible

  • Growth and expansion strategies to scale these services across Europe

 Your impact

  • Lead and grow a high-performing engineering organization of +25 talents, mentoring managers and staff engineers across mobile and backend domains — building a culture of technical excellence and velocity

  • Set the technical vision and strategy for Patient Health Companions, ensuring alignment with Doctolib's business and product roadmap

  • Own the technical direction across AI chat, recommendation systems, and mobile — setting the standard for quality and pace of execution

  • Define engineering practices and architecture that enable rapid experimentation at scale (18M documents shared per month, 40M teleconsultations delivered to date)

  • Partner with Product, Design, Medical, and Data teams to ensure solutions address real clinical needs and deliver outstanding user experiences

  • Drive acquisition and expansion strategies to extend Health Companion services across Europe

  • Influence Doctolib's long-term technical architecture and help position the company as Europe's definitive health technology platform

Your team

Reporting to our VP of Engineering, Health Companion, you’ll get to work with Leo Lanzarotti (VP Product, Patient),  Anna-Karin Edstedt Bonamy (Chief Medical Officer) and Axel Colin de Verdière (AI Health Assistant, Engineering Director)’s teams. You will also partner closely with Data, AI, Design, Marketing, Strategy, Compliance, and country teams.

Your profile

You have led engineering organisations at scale and know what it takes to ship great products fast, durably, and without sacrificing quality. You think in systems — technical and organisational — and you are as comfortable setting a multi-year architecture direction as you are making a hard technical call. You thrive in fast-moving environments and bring clarity where others see complexity.

Core qualifications:

  • 5+ years of engineering management experience, including managing managers and staff engineers across diverse technical domains

  • Proven ability to recruit, develop, and retain exceptional engineering talent

  • Strong foundation in software engineering, distributed systems, and architecture — with the ability to guide decisions across mobile and backend

  • Track record of translating business strategy into technical roadmaps and aligning engineering execution accordingly

  • Experience scaling engineering organisations while sustaining culture, quality, and velocity with a strong appetite for building with AI

  • Deep empathy for users and a commitment to building products with beautiful UI that genuinely address their needs

  • You recognise yourself in our Founder mode playbook

 Bonus points for:

  • Experience building consumer health products or working in regulated healthcare environments

  • Background in AI/ML systems, recommendation engines, or content platforms

  • Track record of launching and growing successful mobile applications

  • Experience collaborating with medical professionals or navigating clinical safety constraints

If you're passionate about using technology to transform healthcare and excited about building and managing high-performing teams, we want to hear from you.
