## About the role

The First Year Representative is responsible for representing the perspectives, experiences, and interests of first-year students within CUS Equity & Inclusion. The representative will work closely with the Equity Advisors and other commission members to support Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion-based initiatives within UBC and Sauder, while helping foster a welcoming, inclusive, and connected community for students entering their first year.

##### Time Commitment

3-5 hours per week

##### Term of Employment

September 2026 - April 2027

##### Main Responsibilities

- Represent the perspectives, experiences, and concerns of first-year students within the CUS Equity & Inclusion Commission.

- Assist the Equity Advisors and commission members with planning and executing Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives.

- Support the organization and promotion of events, workshops, campaigns, and community-building initiatives.

- Participate actively in weekly team meetings and contribute ideas and feedback.

- Engage with first-year students to better understand their experiences and identify opportunities to improve belonging within the Sauder community.

- Provide assistance with all E&I events and boothing

- Collaborate with other representatives and commission members on projects and initiatives.

- Take on additional responsibilities and projects as needed, with guidance from the Equity Advisors.

##### Qualifications

- UBC Sauder Undergraduate student entering their first year in September 2026.

- Committed to fostering an inclusive, welcoming, and supportive environment within the Sauder community.

- A strong desire to learn from diverse perspectives and experiences.

- Strong communication and interpersonal skills.

- Able to work independently with guidance and collaboratively within a team.

- Reliable, proactive, and willing to contribute new ideas.

- Previous Equity & Inclusion or leadership experience is not required; enthusiasm and a willingness to learn are highly valued.

##### Anticipated Learning Outcomes

The First-Year Representative will have the opportunity to develop leadership, communication, advocacy, and community-building skills by working with diverse groups of students and supporting Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion initiatives within the Sauder community. As members of the Equity Commission, representatives will also have the opportunity to build connections with students, professionals, and community members involved in Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion.

In addition, you will have the opportunity to use and develop skills in (but not limited to) the following areas:

- Leadership and Communication Skills

- Community Building and Student Advocacy

- Event Planning and Execution

- Independent and Collaborative Work

- Understanding of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion Principles

- Engaging with Diverse Perspectives

- Initiative Development and Problem-Solving
