A Crime Analyst job is available with the City of Fort Worth. This position will contribute to the City's strategic goals, mission and vision by performing a variety of strategic, tactical and administrative duties relating to the systematic process of collecting, categorizing, analyzing and disseminating information on crime patterns, trends and potential suspects. The incumbent will work under limited supervision and is responsible for preparing crime and statistical reports utilizing software programs.

**Minimum Qualifications: **

- Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university with major coursework in Police Science, Criminal Justice, or a related field

- Two (2) years of increasingly responsible crime analysis and research experience

**Preferred Qualifications: **

- Additional years of experience working as a Crime Analyst

- Experience with an automated police system such as CAD/ARS/RMS

- Intermediate proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (PowerPoint, Word, Excel)

- Experience with ArcGIS/ArcMap software

- Experience with relational databases and Crystal Reports

**The Crime Analyst job responsibilities include:**

- Perform a variety of crime analysis activities; read, interpret and summarize offense and other types of reports to obtain information about crimes committed

- Organize summarized information into clear and concise reports; develop and prepare charts, graphs, maps, bulletins and related materials to track and present findings related to criminal activity, patterns, and trends to various division heads and various other police personnel

- Determine criminal association and patterns of criminal activity relating to specific offenders or groups of offenders; conduct background research on suspects or criminals; collect, compile and analyze intelligence data; and maintain records and intelligence files on certain repeat criminal offenders to recognize modus operandi

- Develop and produce crime maps using geographic information systems applications; conduct spatial analysis of crime data; prepare a variety of mapping products; and prepare and present a variety of charts, graphs and reports

- Interact and communicate with Police personnel on crime analysis research matters; and respond to ad-hoc requests for data, information and various reports

- Maintain awareness of new developments in the field of crime analysis; incorporate new developments as appropriate into programs

**Working Conditions** and **Physical Demands**

Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically require touching, talking, hearing, seeing, grasping, standing, walking and repetitive motions.

Sedentary Work – Depending on assignment, positions in this class typically exert up to 10 pounds of force occasionally, a negligible amount of force frequently, and/or or constantly having to lift, carry, push, pull or otherwise move objects. Sedentary work involves sitting most of the time. Jobs are sedentary if walking and standing are required only occasionally and all other sedentary criteria are met.

**Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) Background Check**

Final candidates selected for hire in the Police Department will be subject to a criminal background, drug screen, polygraph examination, psychological exam and fingerprint check. ***Applicants must not have used marijuana during the previous two (2) years, nor illegally used any controlled substances within the last five (5) years.***

Applicants for this position must pass a Criminal Justice Information Systems (CJIS) fingerprint-based background check and maintain CJIS eligibility. Due to CJIS requirements related to system access, the following will result in being disqualified for this position: Felony Convictions, Felony Deferred Adjudication, Class A Misdemeanor Conviction, Class B Misdemeanor Convictions in the last 10 years, Class A Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication, Class B Misdemeanor Deferred Adjudication in the last 10 years, an Open Arrest for Any Criminal Offense (Felony or Misdemeanor), and ALL Family Violence Convictions regardless of class.
