##### About the role

SQC builds gate-based quantum computers in silicon. Our largest programmes are multi-year commitments to US government sponsors, delivered against fixed benchmarks, milestones and independent evaluation. We are hiring a Technical Project Manager into Projects, the team that plans and delivers those programmes.

You will own the detailed schedule end to end, across hardware tasks, software workstreams and partner deliverables, not just the high-level roadmap. That means holding a critical path that runs through fabrication, measurement, engineering and external subcontractors, and running structured risk assessment as a standing discipline rather than an occasional exercise. Predictability is the core of the job. You will flag early that a milestone is at risk of slipping rather than surfacing it after the fact, and when new information or a blocker lands, you will adjust the plan quickly and make the consequences clear to the people who need to act on them.

You will own the commercial side of the programme too: the budget, tracked against the annual projections we hold with our investors, with variances flagged early and visible to management, alongside funding proposals and the subcontractors delivering into the programme. You will own the government interface, including the independent verification and validation relationship, keeping internal schedules aligned to sponsor milestones and holding the programme accountable to the exit criteria it will be judged against. You will also support our quantum machine learning customer interface, keeping programme schedules and customer commitments aligned, keeping QML customers informed of deliverable timelines and test results as they feed into the programme, and escalating commercial priorities or scope changes rather than absorbing them into the plan.

Based at our Sydney facility, you will work across nearly every team in the business, moving between technical detail with engineers, clear synthesis for management, and concise updates for the executive and the CEO. This is a role for someone with a genuine project management mindset: structured, disciplined about following defined processes rather than improvising case by case, personally committed to milestones, and comfortable challenging engineering estimates, holding teams to their commitments and pushing back when delivery slips.

##### Role responsibilities

- Own the detailed delivery schedule across multiple workstreams, covering hardware tasks alongside software and partner deliverables

- Build and maintain a credible critical path, and keep multi-team work moving transparently and to a high technical bar

- Run structured risk assessment as a recurring responsibility, identifying dependencies early and maintaining mitigation plans against them

- Flag milestone risk before it materialises, then replan and communicate the consequences as soon as a blocker or new information emerges

- Hold teams accountable to their commitments, challenge engineering estimates and priorities, and escalate where delivery is slipping

- Own the government interface, including the independent verification and validation (IV&V) relationship, planning test and evaluation against exit criteria and packaging results into the reporting and reviews sponsors expect

- Own and track the programme budget, maintaining alignment between actual spend and the annual projections agreed with our investors, and flagging variances early

- Develop funding proposals and manage subcontractors, including statements of work, deliverables, commercial terms and spend against plan

- Prioritise across competing demands so effort lands on the highest-impact work

- Communicate across levels, from technical detail with the teams through to concise high-level updates for management and the CEO

- Work to defined programme and quality processes, applying them consistently across the programme

- Build the processes, systems and tooling that help our researchers and engineers move faster

##### Your experience

- A track record of delivering complex technical programmes against fixed external milestones, where the deadline does not move and the reporting bar is high

- Experience owning detailed delivery schedules across hardware and software workstreams, including external partners and subcontractors

- A background in hardware electronics, semiconductor, test engineering or manufacturing programme management, or another environment where hardware dependencies carry real schedule risk

- A structured approach to risk, identifying dependencies early and maintaining credible mitigation plans rather than reporting problems after they land

- Experience owning a programme budget, tracking spend against plan and reporting variance

- Experience managing subcontractors, statements of work, deliverables and commercial terms

- Comfortable operating to defined processes and formal quality requirements rather than improvising case by case

- Willing to hold the line, challenging estimates and priorities and pushing back when delivery slips

- Strong communication and stakeholder management in a matrix environment, adjusting register between engineers, management and executives

- A fast learner, comfortable ramping up on unfamiliar technical domains and picking up the quantum and cryogenic vocabulary on the job

- Experience delivering to government-funded research programmes or under independent evaluation is desirable but not essential
