# Internship: Software Engineer, Test

**Revel** · Los Angeles

Apply: https://jobs.ashbyhq.com/revel/f080b27d-92c7-4e1f-a85f-b4a7c166d738

## About Revel

Revel offers events and online communities that nourish women at midlife and beyond. We are backed by Forerunner Ventures and Y Combinator and were recently named one of the Most Innovative Companies of 2020 by Fast Company.

## About the role

### About Revel

At Revel, we are revolutionizing the way the world’s most critical hardware is controlled—across aerospace, automotive, energy, and manufacturing sectors. Our next-generation software stack combines an intuitive command/control interface, a specialized programming language tailored for hardware control, and a high-performance runtime environment. We empower engineers to build, test, and deploy critical systems rapidly, reliably, and safely.

### The Internship

As a Software Engineering – Test Intern at Revel, you’ll help build the infrastructure that allows us to continuously test software against real and simulated hardware.

You’ll work at the intersection of software engineering, hardware, and infrastructure, helping build and maintain Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) test systems and the automation that powers them. You’ll write Python, work with CI/CD systems, interact with test equipment and hardware, and help make our testing faster, more reliable, and more scalable.

This is a hands-on internship for students who enjoy figuring out how systems work, automating repetitive processes, and solving problems that span software and hardware. You’ll work closely with experienced engineers and gain exposure to the infrastructure behind software used to control mission-critical hardware.

### What You'll Do

- Build and maintain Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL) testing systems

- Write Python scripts and automation to improve software testing and development workflows

- Help integrate test equipment, instrumentation, and hardware into automated test environments

- Contribute to continuous integration (CI) and testing infrastructure

- Help diagnose and troubleshoot failures across software, hardware, and test infrastructure

- Improve the reliability, speed, and scalability of automated testing

- Develop tools and processes that make it easier for engineers to test software against real-world hardware

- Contribute to documentation and best practices around testing and automation

- Collaborate with software, embedded, and hardware engineers to improve test coverage and reliability

- Learn how software, infrastructure, and physical hardware come together in a production engineering environment

### What We're Looking For

- Currently pursuing a Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Physics, or a related technical field

- Rising Junior or Senior graduating in 2027 or 2028

- Experience with Python or another programming language through coursework, personal projects, research, or previous internships

- Strong problem-solving and debugging skills

- Interest in software testing, automation, infrastructure, or hardware-software integration

- Basic understanding of software development workflows and version control

- Curious about how software interacts with real hardware and physical systems

- Comfortable learning new tools, technologies, and systems

- Strong written and verbal communication skills

- Curious, self-directed, and excited to learn from experienced engineers

- Comfortable working in a fast-paced, technically challenging environment

- US citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee (ITAR requirement)

### Bonus Points

- Experience with Linux or command-line tools

- Familiarity with CI/CD systems or automated testing frameworks

- Experience with GitHub Actions, Jenkins, GitLab CI, or similar tools

- Experience with data acquisition systems, instrumentation, or test equipment

- Experience with microcontrollers, embedded systems, robotics, or hardware projects

- Exposure to Hardware-in-the-Loop (HIL), Software-in-the-Loop (SIL), or simulation environments

- Experience with Docker, virtual machines, or server infrastructure

- Familiarity with networking and debugging communication between systems

- Experience with Rust, C, or C++

- Interest in aerospace, automotive, robotics, autonomous systems, or industrial automation

### Why Revel

- Test software against real hardware — work on the infrastructure that connects software to the physical world

- Build automation that matters — create tools that engineers rely on every day

- Work across software and hardware — gain experience spanning applications, infrastructure, embedded systems, and physical test environments

- Learn from exceptional engineers — work closely with experienced software, embedded, and test engineers

- Solve challenging problems — debug failures that can span multiple layers of a complex system

- Grow quickly — work in a small, ambitious team where your contributions are visible and your learning curve is steep

### Internship Details

- Program: Summer 2027 Internship

- Duration: June - August 2027

- Type: Summer, paid internship

- Location: Los Angeles or San Francisco

- Work environment: On-site

- Travel: Occasional travel to customer sites may be required ***Join us to redefine what’s possible in software for hardware.***
