##### Structural Steel Quality Inspector – 1st Shift

**Job Type:** Contract-to-Hire
**Shift:** 1st Shift
**Starting Pay:** Up to $32/hour, depending on experience

##### Position Summary

Seeking a Quality Inspector with hands-on structural steel fabrication experience to verify materials, welding, coatings, and finished components meet project specifications and applicable industry standards.

This is primarily a **shop-floor position** in an active manufacturing environment with limited office work. The facility is non-climate-controlled, so candidates should be comfortable working in varying temperatures and being on their feet throughout the day.

##### Responsibilities

- Perform inspections of structural steel components throughout the fabrication process.

- Check welding, materials, and finished work against drawings, specifications, and quality requirements.

- Verify compliance with AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, AISC, and other applicable standards.

- Inspect incoming materials, parts, and welding consumables.

- Document inspection results and maintain QC records, logs, and related documentation.

- Use and maintain inspection equipment and welding-related quality tools.

- Calibrate welding equipment and quality inspection instruments as required.

- Support welder qualification and certification activities.

- Assist with training involving welding, fitting, and quality requirements.

- Maintain drawing control and other QC processes.

- Work with production and management to identify and correct quality issues.

- Participate in continuous improvement and company training programs.

- Promote safe work practices throughout the fabrication facility.

##### Required Qualifications

- At least 2 years of structural steel fabrication experience.

- Previous experience in quality control, inspection, or manufacturing.

- Working knowledge of AWS D1.1, AWS D1.5, and AISC standards.

- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings and specifications.

- Experience using inspection tools such as:

Fillet weld gauges

- V-WAC gauges

- Squares

- Tape measures

- Other standard QC inspection equipment

- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision.

- Strong attention to detail with a focus on quality and safety.

##### Preferred Qualifications

- Current Certified Welding Inspector (CWI) certification.

- Experience with nondestructive testing methods, including:

Ultrasonic Testing (UT)

- Magnetic Particle Testing (MT)

- Penetrant Testing (PT)

- Additional certifications in structural steel fabrication, bolting, coatings, or welding inspection.

- Previous experience in a steel manufacturing or fabrication environment.

##### Work Environment

- Primarily performed on the production floor.

- Limited office work.

- Non-climate-controlled manufacturing facility.

- Regular standing, walking, and inspection of steel materials throughout the workday.
