##### Diesel Mechanic – Heavy Equipment

**Location:** Richmond, VA
**Job Type:** Full-Time | Direct Hire
**Shift:** 1st Shift
**Starting Pay:** $24.00/hour — higher pay available depending on experience

**Travel:** Occasional work-related travel required

##### Position Overview

We are seeking an experienced Diesel Mechanic to maintain and repair heavy equipment, trucks, track equipment, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment. This position includes preventive maintenance, troubleshooting, repairs, and occasional travel to support equipment at other locations.

Travel may include emergency repair assignments, preventive maintenance, repairs, training, meetings, or supporting locations without an on-site mechanic. Travel time may include **per diem and overtime pay**.

##### Responsibilities

- Diagnose, repair, and maintain heavy equipment, trucks, trailers, cranes, and other motorized equipment.

- Perform scheduled preventive maintenance and inspections.

- Follow daily work assignments and priorities provided by the Shop Foreman.

- Troubleshoot equipment issues and help reduce downtime.

- Complete repair and maintenance work orders accurately and on time.

- Document mileage, operating hours, dates, and repair details.

- Communicate urgent or emergency repair needs to the Shop Foreman.

- Keep tools, equipment, and work areas clean and organized.

- Work as part of a team to complete repairs and maintenance efficiently.

- Follow all applicable safety rules and procedures.

- Travel to other locations as needed for equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, training, seminars, and meetings.

- Perform other related duties as assigned.

##### Required Qualifications

- Minimum 5 years of maintenance experience with heavy equipment and/or track equipment, trailers, cranes, or similar machinery.

- At least 5 years of experience in two or more additional technical areas, such as:

Hydraulics

- Electronics

- Small engines

- Air conditioning

- Other related mechanical systems

- High school diploma/GED plus trade school, dealership, or factory training in diesel mechanical repair and maintenance equivalent to associate-level technical training.

- Strong problem-solving skills and attention to results.

- Ability to prioritize urgent repairs and work effectively under pressure.

- Strong communication and organizational skills.

- Proficient computer skills.

- Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively in English.

- Valid driver's license with a good driving record.

- Professional certifications related to heavy equipment maintenance and repair are required/preferred as applicable.

- Additional certifications may be required based on assigned responsibilities.

##### Physical Requirements

- Frequent bending, twisting, stooping, walking, sitting, standing, kneeling, climbing, and carrying materials or parts.

- Ability to work in varying weather conditions.

- Ability to work extended hours when needed.

- Regularly lift up to 50 pounds.

- Items over 50 pounds should be reduced in weight when possible.

- Assistance is required for items weighing more than 75 pounds or items that present ergonomic challenges.

##### Travel

Occasional travel to other locations is required. Mechanics may be assigned to emergency equipment repairs, preventive maintenance, or repair work at locations without a mechanic.

**Travel assignments may include per diem and overtime pay.**
