**About the Team**

The Intelligence and Investigations team supports this by identifying and investigating misuses of our products – especially new types of abuse. This enables our partner teams to develop data-backed product policies and build scaled safety mitigations. Precisely understanding abuse allows us to safely enable users to build useful things with our products.

**About the Role**

As an Abuse Investigator specializing in scams and fraud on the Intelligence and Investigations team, you will investigate misuse of OpenAI products that could deceive or defraud people and organizations. You will assess complex cases, distinguish harmful activity from legitimate use, and make well-supported recommendations for action. You will respond to time-sensitive issues and work with partners across the company as investigations evolve. This role calls for strong investigative judgment, technical fluency, and clear communication.

**In this role, you will:**

- Investigate potential scams and fraud involving OpenAI products, including complex or coordinated activity, and document clear, defensible findings.

- Assess urgent and ambiguous cases, distinguish substantiated abuse from legitimate use, and recommend proportionate responses.

- Communicate findings, uncertainty and recommendations clearly to leadership and cross-functional partners.

- Work with colleagues across the company to improve how OpenAI responds to emerging scams and fraud.**You might thrive in this role if you:**

- Understand online scams and financial fraud, and can adapt as tactics and risks evolve.

- Bring strong technical and analytical skills, including experience working with complex information and learning new tools.

- Make careful judgments from incomplete or conflicting evidence and state the limits of your conclusions. Relevant language or regional expertise is a plus.

- Have at least five years investigating online scams, financial fraud, cybercrime or related forms of online abuse.

- Have at least two years of experience conducting applied abuse research or improving investigative practices.

- Write clear, well-supported reports and explain findings to technical and nontechnical audiences.

- Understand how AI products can be misused and can adapt your investigative approach as products and risks change.**About OpenAI**
