# Product Engineer

**DataCamp** · Portugal

Apply: https://job-boards.greenhouse.io/datacamp/jobs/8188292

## About the role

##### About DataCamp

DataCamp's mission is to empower everyone with the data and AI skills essential for 21st-century success. By providing practical, engaging learning experiences, DataCamp equips learners and organizations of all sizes to harness the power of data and AI. As a trusted partner to over **17 million learners and 6,000+ companies, including 80% of the Fortune 1000**, DataCamp is leading the charge in addressing the critical data and AI skills shortage.

**About the role****
**We're looking for a Senior Product Engineer who brings real passion, innovation, and entrepreneurial drive to the systems millions of people rely on to learn. You'll take large, ambiguous projects from idea to impact with real autonomy — prototyping, measuring, and iterating in fast feedback loops rather than grinding through tickets. You'll have a strong voice in what gets built and how, partnering closely with Product, Design, and fellow engineers to ship work you're proud of and to sweat the details that make it great.

This is an AI-native team, not an AI-curious one. Agentic coding tools like Claude Code and Codex are core to how we work every day, alongside LLMs and AI APIs. We expect engineers to lean on them to prototype faster, raise code quality, and spend more time on the hard problems that matter most for the people we build for.

If you’re excited about building great products, shaping the future of how DataCamp builds and ships, and working on systems that operate at scale, we’d love to hear from you.

**Responsibilities**

- Own product or platform projects end-to-end — idea, build, release, measurement, iteration — with the autonomy to make them count.

- Shape the technical direction of the systems you work on, from architecture through implementation.

- Own the services you ship and keep them scalable, reliable, and observable as they grow — and increasingly, those services are powered by LLMs.

- Raise the bar for technical decisions and architecture across scalable, reliable, and maintainable systems, including LLM-powered services. Advocate for high standards in testing, observability, code quality, and long-term engineering excellence

- Use data, metrics, and user feedback to decide what to build next.

- Grow the engineers around you through mentorship, technical leadership, and thoughtful code review.

**What are we looking for?**

- You have 7+ years building software across the stack — experience with our stack (TypeScript, Node.js, React) is a strong plus.

- You have start-up or early-stage / small-company experience — you thrive in fast-paced, high-velocity environments and ship quickly.

- You have a strong product mindset paired with pragmatism — you understand your users, weigh data and feedback with good taste, and make sharp trade-offs to drive decisions rather than chase perfection

- You're AI-native — agentic coding tools (Claude Code, Codex) are your primary way of working, with 6+ months of daily, hands-on use. You write your own skills, wire up MCP servers, and can show us what you've built with them.

- You demonstrate expert knowledge of modern API design and microservices architecture.

- You have a track record of taking large, ambiguous problems end to end and independently — both greenfield 0→1 builds and improving complex existing systems.

**What’s in it for you?****
**In addition to joining a creative and international start-up, you’ll enjoy:

- An exciting job that will offer you technical challenges every day

- A competitive salary with fringe benefits

- Flexible hours

- International company retreats

- Learning and development. We encourage continued education through a conference budget and external training.

- Modern tooling to do your best work, including agentic AI tools like Claude Code and Codex as part of your everyday workflow.

- Working with a great team (everyone says this, but we’re serious—we’re pretty great)
